Oksana Bilozir congratulated Ukrainians on Vyshyvanka Day

Former Minister of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine, artist, and public figure Oksana Bilozir expressed her congratulations on the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day. She emphasized that the vyshyvanka is not just clothing, but a code of the nation, a symbol of memory and protection.

«The vyshyvanka is a canvas armor. It is a soft but stubborn answer: we are, we were, and we will be», wrote Bilozir.

The public figure also noted that in the conditions of the fight for Ukraine's freedom, the vyshyvanka becomes an important symbol of Ukrainian identity that the whole world will hear. Vyshyvanka Day in 2025 will be celebrated on May 15, and this holiday is dedicated to preserving the traditions of Ukrainian national clothing.

The tradition of celebration

In 2006, a student of Chernivtsi National University suggested to her classmates to come to classes in embroidered shirts. Thus, the celebration of Vyshyvanka Day began, which over Time spread across the country. Every year on this day, Ukrainians wear national clothing and participate in flash mobs on social media.

Due to the state of war, the holding of mass events on Vyshyvanka Day is limited, but everyone who can is encouraged to wear a vyshyvanka to support Ukrainian soldiers and boost the spirit of Ukrainians.

In particular, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky along with his wife has already participated in the celebration, showing their support in a red and black vyshyvanka. Also, in Kyiv, the Ukrainian symbols - Kyi, Shchek, Khoryv, and Lybid - were dressed in traditional Ukrainian attire.

The news highlights the importance of the vyshyvanka as a symbol of Ukrainian identity and memory, as well as the organization of Ukrainians in the form of flash mobs and other communal actions. It also emphasizes support for the military and the involvement of everyone willing in the celebration of the national holiday.
