Ukrainian chess player caught cheating in the bathroom: scandal details.

Ukrainian chess player disqualified for cheating
Kyril Shevchenko, a former Ukrainian chess player, was disqualified for three years (one of which is conditional) for cheating. This was reported by 'Glavcom'.
During the second round of the Spanish championship, Shevchenko, who now plays for Romania, came under suspicion. He frequently went to the bathroom, waiting for a specific stall to be free. A mobile phone and a note were found in that stall.
The handwriting on the note turned out to resemble the handwriting and ink in the records of the first two rounds of Shevchenko. As a result, his results in these rounds were annulled, and the player was expelled from the tournament.
In October last year, Shevchenko was disqualified until January 2025. However, the disqualification period was extended to October 2026. At the same Time, the revocation of Shevchenko's grandmaster title was considered, but this decision was not made.
The FIDE Fair Play Commission disagreed with the decision of the ethics commission. They acknowledged that the penalty for cheating should be deterrent and that FIDE's position on zero tolerance for cheating should be stronger.
Cheating by Russian runner
Additionally, the cheating of Russian runner Darya Yaderyna, who participated in the Tokyo Marathon, was revealed. Her time was annulled, and she was excluded from the competition records for rule violations. The Russian athlete stopped at some distance and missed checkpoints.
