The European Union allocated €76 million in grant assistance to Ukraine for the construction of a European gauge railway between Lviv and the border with Poland. This decision was made by the Coordination Committee of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kubela.

This project is the initial stage for future railway connections with Europe: Sknyliv - Mostyska II.

"The European gauge railway means shorter travel Time, new opportunities for transit, and decongesting border points. It is an investment in the economic resilience of the country, trade development, export enhancement, new opportunities for business and logistics. This is a clear signal that Ukraine is already part of the European transport network, and our integration is happening now," emphasized Oleksiy Kubela.

The Minister called the project "extremely important", especially in wartime conditions, when it comes to the country's ability to ensure stability and movement. This happens even in conflict zones when there are closed airports, ports, and damaged infrastructure.

"The railway infrastructure remains the basis for critical freight flows and is the foundation of logistics and economic resilience of the state. Therefore, any changes in tariffs must be assessed not only by the short-term impact on enterprises but also by the long-term macroeconomic stability, preservation of export potential, and development of Ukraine's transit significance," noted ICC Ukraine.

The European Union's decision to allocate grant assistance for the construction of the European gauge railway is an important step in Ukraine's integration into the European transport system. Such initiatives contribute to the development of the country's economic resilience and increase its investment attractiveness.

The opening of the European gauge railway at the border with Poland is an important step for Ukraine in strengthening transport links with the EU. It will also contribute to improving trade, exports, and the overall economic development of the country. Infrastructure projects of this kind help Ukraine enhance its cooperation with European partners and increase its influence in the region.
