EU approved a new sanctions regime against Russia
The Committee of Permanent Representatives of EU countries (Coreper) in Brussels approved the draft resolution of the EU Council on a new sanctions regime against Russia, Belgian media reports.
According to sources, the new sanctions are aimed at combating Russia's ‘destabilizing activities’, which the EU and NATO consider the cause of a number of incidents aimed at destabilizing the member states of these alliances.
In particular, Germany, Latvia, Poland, and Estonia are victims of 'hybrid attacks' that the EU and NATO assess as an attempt by Russia to weaken Western support for Ukraine.
The new sanctions regime provides for measures against individuals and organizations deemed to be involved in such actions. The sanctions will include asset freezes and a ban on entry to European Union countries.
After the official approval of the resolution by the EU Council, the European Union will publish the names of individuals and the names of organizations that will fall under the new restrictions.
