The soldiers were unarmed, and according to Russian sources, no one was injured or killed. It is still unknown whether any of them managed to escape. The police and Rosgvardiya forces surrounded the commandant's office to prevent escape attempts.
In the first four months of 2023, more cases of unauthorized abandonment of military service were reported to Russian courts than in the previous year. From January to May 2023, 1,053 such cases were filed, which is a greater number than in all of 2022 (1,001).
This incident with Russian soldiers in Krasnodar is just one of numerous examples indicating a worsening situation. This issue could have serious consequences for the country's security and the effectiveness of military structures. There is a need for a thorough analysis and to seek out the causes of this trend, as well as to take measures to counter this phenomenon.
