Almost half of Germans support participation in a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine - survey.

According to a survey by Forsa for the magazine Stern, half of Germans support the deployment of Bundeswehr forces in Ukraine to monitor the ceasefire. 49% of the population supports such a move, while 44% oppose it, and 7% refrain from expressing their opinion, reports Reuters.

In western Germany, 52% of the population supports participation, while 65% of residents of the former communist eastern states oppose it. The survey also showed that 83% of voters for the 'Alternative for Germany' (AfD) party reject deployment.

On Monday, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense stated that Germany would not shy away from participating if the appropriate framework is established. However, the decision will be made by the new German government after the federal elections on Sunday.

The survey was conducted on February 13 and 14.
