The driver of a VAZ car fatally hit a border guard at a checkpoint near Odessa.


On the evening of December 2, at 6:00 PM, an accident occurred at a checkpoint in the Odessa region, resulting in a VAZ driver hitting two border guards. One of the border guards was killed. This was reported by the National Police.
According to the police, a 66-year-old driver of a VAZ vehicle struck two soldiers of the State Border Guard Service who were at the checkpoint.
One of the border guards died at the scene, while the other was hospitalized with injuries.
It has been preliminarily established that the driver did not pay attention to road signs indicating speed limits before the checkpoint.
However, the driver was sober, and he has already been tested for alcohol in his blood. The driver was detained, and a criminal case was opened under Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation if it led to a person's death or caused serious bodily harm.
The pre-trial investigation into the traffic accident at the checkpoint in Odessa is ongoing.
It is recalled that on the 'Kyiv-Odessa' M-05 highway near Uman, a truck hit a pedestrian bridge that collapsed onto the roadway.
