A clash occurred in the Volyn region between representatives of the OCU and the UOC MP. One of the OCU priests was beaten by the father of a high school student. The incident took place after the classrooms were consecrated.
The conflict happened in the village of Vetly, on the border with Belarus. OCU priest Roman Hula came to the high school to perform a religious rite of sprinkling parishioners. According to him, the children were interested in this rite because it was conducted for the first Time at the school.
Everything happened very quickly. Nobody expected such a reaction. The man acted aggressively and nothing could calm him down. - Father Roman recounts.
After the priest left the classroom, he was attacked by the father of one of the students, who is a supporter of the UOC MP. He attacked the priest with his fists and insulted him. Several other supporters of the Moscow Patriarchate also gathered at the high school, who threatened the priest as well.
After the conflict, the priest turned to medical personnel due to a headache and filed a report with the police. According to him, there have already been several religious conflicts in the village of Vetly. Although most residents support the OCU, there is a small group that supports the Moscow church.
This incident has led to the emergence of draft law №8371, which proposes banning the activities of religious organizations with leadership in a state that aggressively acts against Ukraine. This also concerns the UOC MP, which operates in Ukraine under this brand. Discussions about the draft law are ongoing in the Verkhovna Rada.
