Region of Ukraine, letters and numbers: drivers explained how to find out everything about the car by the number.

How to determine the region of Ukraine by car numbers and what they mean
Since 2004, Ukraine has been using a uniform format for car numbers, consisting of two letters at the beginning, four digits in the middle, and two letters at the end. Changes were made in 2015, but the overall structure of the numbers remained unchanged.
To find out the car's registration region, you need to look at the first two letters of the number. The rest of the elements, such as the four digits and the last two letters, represent the registration number and series.
Features of number plates in Ukraine
Only Cyrillic letters that have analogs in Latin are used on number plates: A, B, E, I, K, M, N, O, R, S, T, and X. Changes in the region coding took place in 2013. For example, the letter A was replaced with K, B with N, and C with I, while the old numbers remained valid.
In 2013, changes occurred in the coding of regions: the letter A was replaced with K, B with N, and C with I. Meanwhile, the old numbers remain valid, leading to the presence of two variants of codes for some regions.
Registration of numbers for different types of vehicles
- Military vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: white symbols on a black background
- Volunteer vehicles: white symbols on a green background
- Electric vehicles: green symbols on a white background with the letter Y in the series (the last two letters).
- Through 'Diia': numbers with the letters DI and PD
- Through the electronic cabinet of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: numbers with the letters ED and DC.
This system allows for quick determination of the registration region and the status of the vehicle.
It was previously reported that the technical inspection in Ukraine will become stricter, more expensive, and include photo documentation.
