Rosneft halted operation of the Ryazan refinery after drone attack, Reuters reports.

The oil refinery in Ryazan, one of the largest in Russia, has stopped operation following an attack by Ukrainian drones. This information was confirmed by two sources from the oil industry to Reuters.

The attack led to an explosion at the oil storage facilities at the plant. Damage to equipment includes a railway terminal and a hydrocracking unit used for refining oil products from impurities.

'The railway loading equipment is damaged. Rail shipment has been halted; they stopped oil processing,' said one of the sources.

Another source confirmed that product shipping has ceased since Friday, and the plant has stopped due to the inability to dispatch products. The company 'Rosneft', the owner of the plant, declined to comment on the situation.

According to experts, other oil refineries in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, and Yaroslavl can supply fuel to compensate for the lack of operation at the Ryazan refinery.

Size of the plant and its products

In 2024, the Ryazan oil refinery processed 13.1 million tons of oil, accounting for 5% of the total processing volume in Russia. According to experts, the refinery produces fuels such as gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, and aviation fuel.

Earlier, the Armed Forces of Ukraine also attacked the oil refinery in Ryazan and a command post in the Kursk region.
