Traffic Violation Fines: Why Drivers in Poland Pay 85 Times More Than in Ukraine.

The fine systems for traffic violations in Ukraine and Poland have differences. Polish drivers pay more fines than Ukrainian ones. Driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol is punished most severely. In Poland, for a blood alcohol level of up to 0.5‰, there is administrative liability and a fine of 5000 zlotys, while exceeding 0.5‰ leads to criminal liability and vehicle confiscation. In Ukraine, the fine is 17000 hryvnias and a 3-year driving ban. The difference is also noticeable in fines for speeding and driving without a license. Polish drivers pay 5-10 times more in fines than Ukrainian drivers.
Poland plans to improve the control system in 2025 by introducing automated fine enforcement and restrictions on fuel sales for unlicensed drivers. Ukraine also has changes, but they are less radical, including the introduction of digital licenses and the automation of document delivery. However, Ukraine lacks a points system that allows repeat offenders to avoid proper accountability. The fines for speeding in Ukraine remain 5-10 times lower than in Poland.
