Danish intelligence assesses when Russia may be ready for a large war with Europe.

The Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Service (UDBR) predicts that if the war in Ukraine ends and NATO does not undergo rearmament, Russia may be preparing for a large-scale war in Europe within five years. This is reported based on an assessment by the Danish Defense Intelligence Service (DDIS).

Further details from DDIS indicate that the Russian military threat will increase in the coming years. One of the factors that could contribute to the emergence of a large war in Europe is the 'major rebuilding and reform of the Russian armed forces' accompanying military actions in Ukraine.

Over the past year, Russian efforts have transformed into 'intensified military capability buildup for waging war against NATO.' Russia has already achieved a significant increase in its military potential, made possible by external funding and material support. If hostilities in Ukraine cease, Russia could start a localized war with one of its neighboring countries within six months.

Forecasts also suggest that in two years, Russia may pose a real threat to one or several NATO countries, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. After approximately five years, it may be preparing for a large-scale war in Europe without the participation of the United States.

However, these forecasts assume that NATO will not be rearming at the same speed.
