Ukrainians will be able to submit claims to the Register of Damages in six new categories.

Ukrainians can now submit applications to the International Register of Damages caused by Russia's aggression against Ukraine in six new categories. This was announced by Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal during a meeting with the delegation of the Register of Damages. The new categories include forced displacement within the country, severe bodily harm, sexual violence, torture, deprivation of liberty (captivity), and forced labor or service.
Applications can be submitted through the Diia app. 'We urge all Ukrainians to submit applications to the Register, as each such application is a step towards ensuring that Russia is held accountable,' Shmyhal emphasized.
The meeting also discussed the next steps of work. The Prime Minister noted that applications from legal entities and state authorities, institutions, and enterprises that have also suffered significant losses are also planned to be accepted.
Denis Shmyhal emphasized that the International Register of Damages is the first component in the process of resolving this issue. A Commission for reviewing applications will then be created to determine compensation amounts. Following that, a Compensation Fund will be established to make payments.
Chairman of the Register Robert Spano emphasized that expanding the categories of applications is an important step towards restoring justice and accountability. 'Each application confirms the need for reparations and ensures that the voices of the victims will be heard,' Spano stated. He also noted that international law clearly recognizes the necessity of acknowledging the suffering caused by violations.
